FAQ

  • Why online therapy?
I have found that convenience has a lot to do with it. In our busy lives, it can be difficult to find the time to schedule an appointment, fight traffic, find parking and get into an office. For many a one hour session can be a 3 hour commitment. Also, as long as you are in California or Tennessee we can begin. You probably wouldn't drive 6 hours to see a therapist but with our online platform you don't have to travel.
  • Will my insurance cover online therapy?
That depends on your insurance. Some providers prefer online therapy to keep their costs and yours down. However, some do not reimburse for online therapy so it is important to check with your insurance carrier or employee assistance program to get pre-approval prior to scheduling a session. We are also happy to provide super bills as an out of network provider that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We are also proud to partner with getbetter.co who can work on your behalf for reimbursement. There is no cost for the service if they are unable to obtain a reimbursement and they take 10% of any recovered funds as a fee.
  • In online therapy right for everyone?
In short, no. If you are suicidal or are having sucidal ideation (Dial 911), online therapy is not right for you. If you are suicidal please call 1-800-273-8255. In addition, there are many who suffer from personality disorders who may find this format difficult. An intake form must be completed prior to scheduling the first session in order to ensure that we can provide services within the standard of care.
  • Can I email/text instead of attending a live session?
Unfortunately, in order to provide continuity of care as well as your privacy, email will only be used to convey short messages regarding appointment reminders and is not intended to be used as substitute for live sessions.
  • What is the cost per session?
Our current rates are based on industry standards based on market as well as the expertise of Joshua Skinner in working with first responders. If you are a current or retired member of the first responder community, please inquire about our first responder discount! Also, a sliding scale is available for a limted number of sessions based on income and availability.
  • Do I need to download special software for online therapy?
The short answer is no. Phone sessions will be conducted at the phone number of your choice. Video sessions can be completed from your desktop computer as well as your Android or Apple mobile devices. So, if you prefer to do your session while in your car during your lunch break, we can do that!
  • What is your cancellation policy?
In order to help as many clients as possible, it is important to ensure that all confirmed appointents arrive on time. All confirmed appointments must be cancelled 24 hours prior to the session either by calling us at (615) 527-6882 or emailing us at contact@skinnergroupllc.com. Failure to do so will result in a charge for the missed session. If you are using insurance that does not reimburse for the session, you will be financially responsible for it.
  • How do I pay for online therapy?
We accept all major credit cards or debit cards with the Visa, Mastercard or American Express logo. The payment for the session will be charged at the beginning of the session and you will receive a receipt in your email.
  • Do you provide bills that I can give to my insurance/EAP for reimbursement?
Absolutely. We are happy to provide end of month statements also known as Super Bills to you so that you can provide them to your insurance. Please be sure to confirm with your insurance provider prior to submitting a reimbursement request.
  • Is this HIPPA compliant?
Yes! The reminder emails you will receive are HIPPA compliant as well as the video sessions.
